Due to the request for collaboration from TSM Termoacoustic clients for insulation and fire protection services, our company division dedicated to laser cutting was born with the aim of offering effective laser cutting solutions with in-house design.
Our extensive experience is synonymous with quality, even in the field of laser cutting, and allows us to offer products with an excellent quality/price ratio.
Laser cutting for multiple sectors industries: how our laser cutting technologies works
We cater to companies in the oil & gas, chemical, nautical, earthmoving, petroleum, and architectural sectors.
We use laser cutting machines with a radiation beam from the source, focused on the surface of the sheet metal to be cut, which heats up and quickly reaches melting point.
At the same time, a gas flow coaxial to the laser beam, exiting from a nozzle located downstream of the focusing lens, produces a fluid dynamic thrust sufficiently intense to remove the molten material, effectively creating the cutting groove.
TSM laser cutting technologies
At TSM, we have fiber laser cutting machines and CO2 laser cutting machines. Let’s look at the characteristics and applications of each laser technology.
Fiber laser
The laser cutting machines (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) we use for sheet metal processing are based on the emission of a monochromatic light beam, particularly straight.
Laser cutting technology is perfect for processing thin and delicate sheets, for example, from 5 to 12 mm, but also for medium thickness sheets, such as 20 mm.
This is for three fundamental reasons:
- The laser light beam concentrates great power on limited surfaces.
- It has a low thermal impact on the sheet.
- Thanks to the extreme cutting precision, no further processing is necessary.
CO2 Laser cutting
Lasers are versatile tools used in various industrial applications, including the CO2 laser, which uses carbon dioxide as the laser medium and is one of the most commonly used lasers in industrial and medical fields.
It operates at an infrared wavelength, typically at 10,600 nm. This type of laser is known for its efficiency, with an energy output of up to 15%, and its low costs.
A CO2 laser emits electromagnetic waves in a gas mixture (CO2, nitrogen, and helium): this radiation excites the CO2 molecules, which emit energy in the form of photons, which in turn generate a laser beam that, through mirrors and a cutting head, is precisely directed onto the material to be processed. The heat produced by the laser, supported by the addition of oxygen, allows the desired material to be engraved or cut.
Types of CO2 Lasers
There are four main types of CO2 lasers:
- Longitudinal and cross-flow lasers: Used for high output powers.
- Waveguide lasers: Use electrodes as waveguides to dissipate heat.
- TEA lasers: Allow high gas pressures with short pulses.
- Sealed lasers: Use a specific gas mixture to enhance the chemical reaction and carbon dioxide formation.
Applications and materials for CO2 lasers
CO2 lasers are versatile, perfect for cutting, welding, and marking various materials. With different power levels, they can process thin organic materials or metals in industrial fields such as automotive, medical, and textile/fashion.
Materials that can be processed by CO2 lasers include:
- Plastic (including fiber-reinforced)
- Textiles
- Wood
- Cardboard
Glass
Acrylic/Plexiglass
Metal
